How to Join

Businesses, Individuals, Nonprofit, Government and Professional Organizations

Membership in the Business Alliance of George Mason University is open to individuals and to business, non-profit, government or professional organizations. Members are encouraged to provide some level of service to George Mason University and/or the Business Alliance through participation in Business Alliance partnership activities. Service takes a wide range of forms (i.e. providing feedback by email to faculty, staff or students; guest lecturing on campus; generating applications for the Business Alliance Grubstake Breakfast; hosting a student/faculty site visit; or serving as a student mentor). Annual membership dues/investment for business and professional services organizations are based on the number of employees based in the local metropolitan, D.C. region. Dues are tax-deductible and range from $500-$2000/year. Nonprofit, venture capital and government organizations may join for an annual fee of only $500.

Get Involved:

Opportunities to volunteer on campus:

  • Guest lecture in the classroom
  • Assist with career development activities (how to network, mock interviews, etc.)
  • Provide advice regarding specific careers
  • Host site visits
  • Participate on Advisory Councils
  • Provide B2B advice to small businesses/entrepreneurs

Opportunities to work with growing companies and entrepreneurs:

  • Assist with coaching, deal flow and promotion of companies seeking $250-2M in investment capital through the Business Alliance Grubstake Breakfast program; (2006 corporate sponsor and investor patrion opportunities available 12/1/05)
  • Assist with planning/promotion and entrepreneur referral to 2005 Business Alliance Bootcamp for Growing Companies and Entrepreneurs; (sponsorships with moderator slots now available)

Volunteer with Networking and Membership Activites

Help plan and promote these quality networking events:

  • Annual Golf Tournament
  • SmartTalk Speaker Series [new in '05-'06]
  • Annual Holiday Networking Event
  • Monthly Member Mixers [new in '05-'06]
  • Annual Celebration of Partnership at Mathy House
    (home of Geroge Mason University President Alan Merten)
  • Student Connections [new in '05-'06]
  • Leadership Initiative [new in ‘06]

How to Join - George Mason University Students, Faculty, Administrators and Staff

Current GMU students, faculty, staff and administrators are defined as "GMU partners" and automatically have the opportunity to participate in Business Alliance activities. To formally join the Business Alliance of George Mason University and to receive news regarding Business Alliance activities and events directly, GMU partners should complete the online form and make certain their filter is set to receive news from info@businessalliance.org.
